Monday 11th to Friday 15th February was Enrichment week at Parkside Studio College. During the course of the week students in Years 9, 10 and 11 took part in Science, Maths English, Business and ICT Intervention Sessions. Options staff also invited students in to catch up with coursework and to go through work which they may not be too sure about. Overall the Enrichment Week proved to be successful and students involved provided positive feedback.

On Tuesday 31st January, students in Years 9 and 10 visited Brunel University to participate in a STEM event organised by the Global Challengers Group. The group presented the core underlining issues affecting the world according to planetary health, global innovation, security and social cohesion. The students were reminded through various activities with robots and practical building resources that the multifaceted, evolving problems of the world require innovative solutions based on transdisciplinary research and application.
On Friday 13th January Parkside students had the opportunity to take part in an event that was delivered by Diversity Org. Diversity Org focus on helping under-represented students gain access to careers, with a range of multi billion pound international companies, acting as a bridge for students through workshops and seminars. Students took part in an interactive session and listened to motivational speeches about the different career paths that are open to them.
The focus for our Year 10 students in Mathematics this Spring Term is Linear and Quadratic Graphs. A pre-requisite skill for this topic is plotting coordinates on the Cartesian plane correctly. To ensure mastery of this key skill, students engaged in a variety of practice activities using the Maths software, GeoGebra, as well as online self-marking exercises on Transum.org.
At the end of last year, here at Parkside, we celebrated the success of our students! We recognised achievement and attainment in all of our core and vocational subjects. We also recognised outstanding effort in story writing, STEM challenges and work experience. Well done to all students for their hard work and dedication.
It’s the season to be jolly and Parkside students enjoyed Ginificent Production’s rendition of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens which was presented as a whole college event on 29th November 2022. Students have been studying the book as part of their AQA English Literature examination, and were enthused as they watched the actor’s bring it to life, this aided students’ understanding of the text and served as a reminder especially for year 11s as they begin preparation for their next round of mock examinations.
On Tuesday 29th November, Year 11 students participated in their second life skills session with Barclays. The session on Finances and the World of Work had students engaged from the very start. The presenter delivered the session very eloquently providing information on taxes, national contributions and self-employment. All students were actively engaged in discussions and group activities. Students look forward to the next session as they continue to plan and prepare for the lives after Parkside. A very thought-provoking and enlightening session!
On Wednesday 23rd November, Media students from Parkside Studio College attended the award-winning advertising agency, PS London in Angel. During the day, different members of staff delivered a presentation about their roles and responsibilities within the agency. Students saw a selection of advertising campaigns by the agency and the development process behind them, and learnt about the various opportunities in the advertising industry available to them when they finish school.
On Thursday 17th November, students in Year 11 had the opportunity to take part in a series of workshops and presentations delivered by outside agencies in order to develop their CV writing skills, and find out more about applying for Post 16 and College places after Year 11.
Monday 7th through to Friday 11th November was Enrichment week at Parkside Studio College. During the course of the week students in Years 9 and 10 took part in a range of intervention and booster sessions which were carried out to further support them. Our Year 11 students were offered revision sessions in preparation for their upcoming trial examinations. Support was also offered to those students whose English is a second language to access our curriculum more easily.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable and highly productive week for all.
In the current global energy crisis, students have been learning about the scientific concepts related to energy and heating during their science lessons, on Monday 31st October, students in Year 10 completed a practical session in which they had to measure the energy transferred to the metal blocks and the temperature increase at consecutive 60 seconds time span. The data collected was analysed to determine the specific heat capacity of each material.
