  • Anti Bullying Assembly

    On Wednesday 26th October, the newly elected anti-bullying ambassadors and other student council members had the opportunity to host an assembly in recognition of National Bullying Prevention Month. The question posed during the assembly was ‘are you a upstander or bystander to bullying?’ Students were presented with a wealth of information on bullying, focussing on the signs of bullying, the effects of bullying and where to turn for help.

    As part of our commitment to promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) students in Years 9 and 10 took part in an exciting STEM challenge in partnership with the Sea Cadets.

  • Sea Cadet STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Challenge!

    As part of our commitment to promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) students in Years 9 and 10 took part in an exciting STEM challenge in partnership with the Sea Cadets.

    Students were initially asked for their ideas on buoyancy before moving on to relate these to unknown situations, then they proceeded to learn through practical activities and experiments about buoyancy, density and displacement. Students became engineers for the day, and worked in teams to design and build a ship which is stable in water while carrying as much cargo as possible. Students had a lot of fun learning about buoyancy and the careers available in Marine Engineering through hands on activities!

  • University of West London Encounter

    On Wednesday 5th October, Parkside welcomed The University of West London for a ‘University Life’ encounter.

    Students firstly identified their favourite hobbies and lessons in which they do well and then research related careers, they explored the movement from secondary school through to Post 16 and university, then the differences between both were discussed. All the research that was completed was with a futuristic scope and an outlook to create a destination plan mapped with a statistical pathway aligned with realistic data.

    Students focused on viewing and rewriting an actual CV and were clearly very engaged and motivated by the useful tips provided in the previous session and used this to edit in a professional way. Students then used the skills gained to construct a professional, modern and eye-catching CV that they will be able to take forward with them when applying for future opportunities. Students gained great insight and are now a step closer to their future; they look forward to part two of this event which will be held on 17th November.

  • September Enrichment Week

    From Monday 27th to Friday 30th September, students in Years 9, 10 and 11 attended college for Enrichment Week, using this time to enhance and enrich their learning through captivating intervention sessions, to fill the gaps in their learning, and to catch up on coursework.

    Students also visited the Science Museum during the week where they had the opportunity to see the cancer research and genetics exhibition, students also took part in interactive learning sessions and learned some fun facts. A great week was had by all!

  • Queen’s Celebration Assembly

    On Friday 19th September, Parkside’s Student Voice delivered a special assembly to celebrate the life of our late Queen. The students presented a very moving tribute to the late monarch which incorporated some amazing facts that are little known by many people. The students had also created a timeline which outlined the events that took place during the late Queen’s reign. The assembly was very informative for both students and staff.
