Students and staff alike were immersed in a world of innovation, exploration, and learning. Here’s a detailed look at our adventure: Our journey began in the Making the Modern World Gallery, where we were transported through time to witness the incredible innovations that have shaped our modern world. From the earliest steam engines to the latest in digital technology, students were fascinated by the exhibits that showcased human ingenuity and progress. The gallery provided a perfect blend of history and science, sparking curiosity and discussions among our young explorers. Next, we powered up our excitement in the Power Up exhibit. This interactive section of the museum is dedicated to the history and future of gaming. Students had the opportunity to play classic video games and learn about the technological advancements that have transformed the gaming industry. The hands-on experience was a hit, with everyone enjoying the chance to engage with both retro and modern games. It was a fantastic way to see how far we’ve come in the world of entertainment technology.

On Tuesday, 10th September, students had the privilege of attending an insightful assembly conducted by the British Transport Police. The session focused on empowering students with essential strategies to ensure their safety and make positive choices while using public transport. The assembly was led by PC Mark and our dedicated Safer Schools Officer, PC Frampton, who shared valuable tips and advice. Here are the key strategies discussed:
On Thursday 11th and Friday 12th July, students at Parkside took part in the Trust Annual Sports Day. Students were highly enthusiastic and worked well in their teams, and they displayed impeccable behaviour throughout the two days, a big effort was put in by all students to win lots of medals, as they cheered on their peers. A big thank you to all staff that helped in organising such a wonderful two days.
Windrush Day was celebrated on 22nd June 2024. At Parkside Studio College, we used our most recent assembly to highlight the day by looking at the journey and impact of the Windrush generation on modern British society. We looked at the labour shortage created by the catastrophe of WWII, which led to the migration of Caribbean people to the ‘Mother Country’ on the HMT Empire Windrush.
On Wednesday 26th June, Mr Downes delivered a whole school assembly on the topic of Anxiety and Fear, which is becoming increasingly common amongst teenagers. Mr Downes shared with students a video of his recent skydiving experience. He highlighted that at first he did not know what to expect so he was anxious, but as he became familiar with the instructor he started to feel more comfortable.

On Thursday 20th June, Year 11 students had the opportunity to have a presentation from a Royal Air Force sergeant who has served in the military for over 21 years. The core values of the Air Force, RISE - Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence, were echoed throughout the session as students listened and were made aware of the multiple opportunities available to them in the Air Force, whether they chose to become an aircraft technician or a chef.
During the May Half Term, students in Year 11 came in to take part in a Biology Booster Session; going over the required practicals is always a good strategy prior to the examination. Thank you to Miss Porter and Mr Fagon for organising the session.
On Wednesday 5th June, students in Year 9 participated in a ‘ Your Life You Choose’ presentation. The one day multi agency presentation aims to educate young people about the consequences of crime, not only for the offender but their family and friends and the victim and the wider community.
On Thursday 9th May, the Business Studies and Mathematics teams embarked on an educational trip to the Bank of England Museum with 30 students from Year 9 and Year 10. The students were in awe of the high-rise buildings’ ambience, participated well, and enjoyed the tour and presentations.
The trip enriched their understanding of the history and role of the UK’s central bank, highlighting its differences from high street banks and the impact of technology on banking, especially regarding cyber security.
