Science at Parkside 2/10/20
Year 10 Science students have been undertaking experiments to measure the insulating ability of various materials and analyse data to determine their suitability as an insulator. During the experiment, students formulated a hypothesis by ranking aluminium foil, cavity wall insulation, newspaper and bubble wrap; from the best insulator to the worst. After formulating their hypothesis, students measured the initial temperature and the final temperature of the hot water bath after 5 minutes to calculate the change in temperature of each. They then collected their results in a table and analysed the data to determine if their hypothesis was plausible. Finally, the students identified the independent variable, dependent variable, control variable as well as discussing ways of improving the accuracy, validity and reliability of the experiment.
